- I EFFING SAW JON STEWART. :D :D :D :D
- HE GAVE US A SHOUT OUT ON HIS SHOW LAST NIGHT. :D :D :D :D
- One of my good Jumpstart colleague friends quit last week due to the fact that she underestimated how serious of a time commitment the position was going to be. :/ So the site managers were at a loss of what to do with the four Corp Members left without a team leader. I was sent this:
Kristen,
As you know, Becky and I have been thinking about solutions for dealing with Jasmine's departure. As this situation has left a group of 5 Corps members without a Team Leader, we talked through some possible strategies for how to problem solve around this.
Becky and I both agree that you have already, in the short time we've known you, proven to be an extremely capable Team Leader. We are hoping to merge the original two Parker Hill Fenway teams into one, for which you would be the Team Leader. This would mean that you would have a group of 9 Corps members at this time. This is a typical size for a fully-recruited team, so I want to ensure you that you should expect no more than 1-2 other Corps members to be placed on your team for the year.
I wanted to run this by you before making any final decisions, to get your feedback and see if you'd feel comfortable with taking on Jasmine's group of CMs. Know that I will provide you with additional support as necessary, since this is an unexpected situation that I anticipate will need some adjustment time.
Please let me know your thoughts so that we can move forward with this plan, or so that Becky & I can continue discussing alternate solutions.
- So I said yes. :D I have the largest team out of any of the other teams, so I'm pretty pumped.
- We saw the pre-school where we'll be working for the first time Friday. I love it there. (Never mind the fact that the windows have planes of bullet-resistant material both inside and out... it's mostly for heat circulation because it's a historical building!)
- I worked with the pre-schoolers for the first time yesterday. Never seen so many boogers (I mean both the children and the ooze in their nasal passages) together in one spot before in my life. There are always at least three different languages going on at one time--during naptime, two Chinese women were helping me refresh my Japanese and the hispanic teachers were helping me brush up on the five years of Spanish that are apparently still useless. I spent so much time and energy trying to learn the language, but it's nothing like hearing it firsthand with Puerto Rican, Peruvian, and Costa Rican accents. Roberto actually humored me the other day: his mom called him to see if he got the food she sent him and during the entirety of the five minute-long conversation, which he put on speakerphone for me, she talked entirely in Spanish and he talked entirely in English, to show me not only how freaking quickly she spoke, but how ridiculously easy it is for him (and her) to translate everything mentally in less time it took for me to actually try to recognize the words she was saying. I only caught one: "comida" or food.
- Look at this freaking awesome pumpkin that my friend Joe from the fourth floor carved. It's sitting out on a shelf above the entrance to Speare Hall, where I live:

- :D
